"I'm The Most Expensive Role Player": Despite Being Contracted for $228 Million, Giannis Antetokounmpo Dimished His Own  Value

Giannis Antetokounmpo is perhaps among the best basketball players in the world. With an incredible two-way impact on the game, his mettle is undeniable. So when he called himself “the most expensive role player”, we were quite shocked ourselves. Is a role player worth $254 million?

In his defense, what Giannis was doing was that he was actually describing what his duties are as a player. When he doesn’t carry the ball his duty is to facilitate the game. In any and every way possible.

In doing so, he described himself as a role player. A statement that can be confusing thanks to the fact that he is not a native English speaker. Lost in translation we suppose.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Once Described Himself as a Role Player, Making him the World’s Most Expensive One

Giannis has a knack for saying things that can be easily taken out of context. He also tends to joke around. A lot. So when he made a statement about being a role player, we were astounded too!

“I’m the most expensive role-player in the world. That’s what I am. People say, superstar, I say no. Role player. I do everything for the team to win, screen, roll….”, Giannis says to Serge Ibaka on his show, How Hungry Are You?

But to be paid such an absurd contract for a role player is not justified. We don’t think he is one. To be paying $228 million for a role player, no GM would do so.

It’s just Giannis’ humility that is on display. As usual, he was showing his maturity and understanding of the role. The struggles that he has gone through have helped him act confident but not cocky.

Sub-heading 2

Giannis Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, Greece, to Nigerian parents. Giannis and his family faced financial hardships while growing up. He and his brothers sold trinkets on the streets to make ends meet, and their parents struggled to find work to support the family.

Despite these challenges, Giannis developed a love for basketball and would often play in the streets with his brothers. He started playing in Greece and caught the attention of scouts. In 2013, Giannis was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks as the 15th overall pick. His inspiring story of perseverance and dedication has made him a role model for many fans around the world.
