Over the past 3 seasons, Joel Embiid has really stepped up his level of play during the regular season. While he was already a dominant big man before, he’s unlocked new levels of affecting the play since December 2020.
He’s finished 2nd in MVP voting over the past 2 full seasons and is primed for another run at the trophy. This season, Embiid is averaging his highest points per game average of his career.
One of the reasons for this upsurge in scoring is that he plays alongside a Hall of Famer in James Harden. The 2018 NBA MVP has made life really easy for Embiid, giving him numerous pick-and-roll scoring opportunities.
Jojo has moved away from his post-dominant style that he had to take during his time alongside Ben Simmons. The points are, thus coming in droves in a fashion that wasn’t seen earlier.

Joel Embiid joins Shaquille O’Neal and Wilt Chamberlain on an elite scoring list
The Philadelphia 76ers took home a wire-to-wire road win over the Portland Trail Blazers tonight. They were able to hold the Blazers to just 14 points in the first quarter and 34 points at halftime.
Though Portland came alive in the second half, the Sixers’ 23-point halftime lead was just enough to see them past the late surge powered by Dame.
Embiid had 32 points on 22 shots, needing only 7 free throws to get to his total. The 7-footer had a night for himself on the defensive end as well, netting 3 blocks. All-in-all, this was the kind of performance that is putting their Conference opponents on notice.
Joel Embiid has seven straight games with 30 points or more while shooting 50 percent or better.

How does the road ahead look for Embiid, Harden and co?
Through 24 games played together this year, Embiid and Harden have managed a 16-8 record thus far. This number seems likely to become more elite as the Sixers step into the latter half of the season.
However, the Sixers have the toughest remaining schedule among all teams for the remainder of the season. They have 8 games remaining against the Celtics, Grizzlies, Nuggets and the Bucks.
They will definitely need Embiid to keep his foot on the gas as they round out to the end of the season.
