Kevin Durant Bids Adieu to Former Warriors GM Bob Myers After a Sensational Speech

Bob Myers, after working 12 years with the Warriors, announced on Tuesday that he’ll step down from his duties as President of Basketball Operations and General Manager. One of his biggest accomplishments in that tenure was to bring Kevin Durant to the Dubs in the 2016 off-season. The two of them bonded quite well while Durant was there. Myers even brought KD up in his speech last night while talking about the players he worked with. And The Slim Reaper responded with a story on Instagram.

In fact, as soon the news broke about Myers calling it quits when his tenure his over in June, Durant gave him a call straight from his vacation in Monaco. This, despite the fact that the Suns star left the Bay Area on not-so-good terms.

Kevin Durant bids farewell to Warriors’ Bob Myers

In his speech to the media, Bob Myers went to length to talk about Kevin Durant and how he and Joe Lacob (majority owner of the Warriors) convinced the then OKC Thunder star to come to San Francisco.

He praised Durant for taking on the challenge despite knowing the hate that would come his way in joining Stephen Curry and Co. Myers went on to admire him for delivering huge on every expectation they had of him and said he would watch him, Curry, and the rest of the Warriors play for free.

Durant kept it short and powerful. He paid his respects with an image of him and Bob with two championships on his (official) Instagram handle.

He must be hinting that Myers gets the credit for those two championships.

What’s next for Myers?

Now that he is just 1 month away from his last day as a Dub. Joe Lacob took the fun way of telling him that June 30th would be his last day.

When a journalist asked if Bob was going to run the (2023) draft, the ever-so-humble Myers said he was never good at it.

James Wiseman?! Bob was tremendous at some other things though. The 48-year-old, a 2-time NBA executive of the year, became the GM 11 years ago, after serving just a year as an assistant to the then GM, Larry Riley.

He was the main man that didn’t let Klay Thompson-Kevin Love trade happen in 2014 and also made the gamble on bringing Steve Kerr as the Head Coach with no experience.

Myers made several significant signings in his time in the franchise that would help them win 4 championships in his tenure. It included KD, David West, JaVale McGee, and Zaza Pachulia.

So, wherever he goes next, you can expect that franchise to reach far bigger heights than ever before.
