"Kevin Durant is much like Wilt Chamberlain": Colin Cowherd breaks down how the Nets star shares similarities with the NBA legend

Kevin Durant is a scoring machine who gets compared to wings like MJ and Kobe Bryant. But Colin Cowherd has Wilt Chamberlain as his real comp.

Because this comparison is so out of the left field, it seems jarring to read the very first time. Wilt Chamberlain, the league’s original Superman, being compared to slender Kevin Durant? The Texas one-and-done product couldn’t even do a benchpress at the draft combine.

But the more you look at their public perceptions, their unstoppable play and their statistical record, the more you begin to understand where Cowherd is coming from, even if you’re still in obvious disagreement.

Unfortunately for us, Colin is the one who has the platform of millions of sports talk show viewers. So it’s he who gets to pick and choose what comparisons we watch on TV.

Colin Cowherd draws numerous parallels between Kevin Durant and Wilt Chamberlain

Cowherd went on a rather long-winding route to this conversation. He began by comparing LeBron and MJ, and then stylistically examining who these 2 are similar to. He then moved on to the real topic at hand – KD’s player comp:

“Kevin Durant, when really healthy, could be the best player in the world. It’s all about the offense though, he doesn’t defend like peak LeBron, doesn’t pass or lead like LeBron, not as sturdy as LeBron, but the NBA players value other players’ offense.”

“You know what Kevin Durant really is? He is Wilt, that’s his comp. Wilt started with the Globetrotters, then went to the Warriors, then the Sixers, and then the Lakers in an era where players weren’t really mobile. He was.”

“That’s Kevin Durant. KD went one year to Texas, then to Seattle, Oklahoma, the Bay Area and now Brooklyn. Unstoppable offensive player. A bit flakey. Great player but never really seen as the face of the league.”

“In the end, he’s going to have some titles. But like with Wilt, you’re going to wonder ‘What! Why doesn’t he have more titles?'”
