“Klay Thompson Is Gonna Go Out and Have a Great Year”: Warriors’ GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. Shows Confidence Amidst Stalled Contract Extension

Klay Thompson is all set to serve out the last year of his contract with the Golden State Warriors. As things stand, he is yet to receive an offer from the Dubs. In fact, there is little to no update about an extension coming his way. This has many bewildered, especially considering how important Klay has been all these years for the Dubs. Recently, 95.7 The Game recently spoke to Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. about Thompson’s future with the team. A former player himself, Dunleavy suggested that Klay could be looking to wrap things up when it comes to a new contract, or he could enter the 2023-2024 season with something to prove. Either way, he is confident that the Splash Brother will have a great year. What’s more, he expects to bring Thompson back and make him a Warrior for life.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. is confident that Klay Thompson will have a great 2023-2024 season

A contract extension for Klay Thompson loomed over the Warriors throughout the off-season. Unfortunately, as GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. revealed, their plans of sealing a deal before the start of the season have now been thrown out the window. Nevertheless, they have the rest of the season to sort things out. A season that Dunleavy expects to be a great one for Klay.

With no deadline as such, Dunleavy believes that Thompson can focus on his game. He is one of the premier players in the NBA, and undoubtedly one of the top-three shooters in the league. Safe to say, he is integral to any chance the Dubs have of making a long run in the Playoffs, and in turn, winning an NBA Championship.

However, things aren’t that easy. A former player himself, Dunleavy understands that there could be a lot going through Thompson’s head. On one hand, he would like to sign an extension as soon as possible. On the other hand, he could go out onto the court with a chip on his shoulder. Nevertheless, he made it clear, that the team fully intends to re-sign him and make him a Warrior for life.

“From a player standpoint, I think it’s nice to have something wrapped up and on the other hand it’s nice to feel like you have something to prove. I think Klay’s gonna go out and have a great year regardless of what happens. And we feel confident in being able to bring him back and have him be a Warrior for life.”

This is perfectly in line with what the team’s owner Joe Lacob had to say. He is positive that Klay will stay with the Warriors and insists that the team wants him back. That being said, he believes that everyone needs to “chill” and let things run their course.

Thompson made an emphatic statement ahead of the season opener as his father claims he is a “Dub”

There is no doubt that contract negotiations will be weighing heavy on Klay Thompson’s head. But, he isn’t letting that distract him from the task at hand. Live streaming from his boat, Thompson made an emphatic statement ahead of his 13th season as a Golden State Warrior and an NBA superstar. He is looking forward to the year to come and is sure it will be his best one yet.

Regardless, there are still those who are worried about his future with the Dubs. This is where his father, Mychal Thompson, stepped in and reminded fans that Klay is going nowhere and is and always will be a Dub.

Either way, the 2023-2024 season will be an interesting one for all parties involved. Klay hopes to prove once again that he is worth another max deal, and the Warriors will be looking to him to help secure their fifth title of the 21st century. All in all, it’s going to be a fun season.
