“LeBron James opened the door and set the tone”: Skip Bayless praises Lakers superstar for using his platform, congratulates NBA for unity after Washington riots
Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe spoke passionately about how the NBA responded to the riots at Capitol Hill yesterday. Bayless had huge praise for LeBron James.
The day of January 6th, 2021, was unlike any day in the history of USA. President Trump called a Save America rally and protested about the elections being rigged. His actions incited thousands from his voter base to march on Capitol Hill and stage large-scale riots.
Bayless kept reiterating how this could not possibly have happened without orders from the Oval Office. A building housing the legislature ranks among the safest in any country, and especially USA. On prima facie evidence, the 4 hour delay in the arrival of the National Guard is highly suspicious.
Skip Bayless praises the way LeBron James uses his platform for social justice
On Undisputed this morning, Skip and Shannon had an extended discussion about the events in Capitol Hill. They talked about Donald Trump’s antics and NBA players’ response at length:
“I get it, your emotions are jerked all over the place in the last few hours, and you find it really hard to focus on basketball. But that’s what you do – you play basketball. And for sure last night, even though part of that was for the Jacob Blake decision.”
“But you don’t want to give in to President Trump. ‘Oh my God, we can’t play because you did that?!’ No, you’re enabling him. He’s winning if you don’t play.”
“I want to congratulate today’s athletes of all colors. It’s powerful when they unite as one big voice. We saw what the WNBA did in Atlanta…and LeBron James has opened the door and set the tone for all this.”

LeBron James is essentially the first superstar team athlete to use his platform for political statements. James was a constant and vocal critic of the Trump administration and the POTUS all through his tenure. More Than A Vote, an initiative by him, made a sizeable difference to the results of the election.
