‘LeBron James will be the GOAT over Michael Jordan if he beats the Nets’: Lakers star’s former teammate explains why a win over James Harden and Kevin Durant would be special

Kendrick Perkins says LeBron James will be the undisputed GOAT if he manages to beat this iteration of the Brooklyn Nets in the Finals.

James has always had a ton of excuses made for him by his diehard fans. The narrative they’ve pushed over the years has convinced big-time publications like ESPN to project him as the GOAT. In reality, he has neither the team success nor the accolades that Michael Jordan, Kareem or Bill Russell have.

Now James is universally considered to have passed Kareem and Bill Russell in the all-time rankings. There are plenty of people who would say he’s also passed Jordan, but that argument gets shot down all the time. Peak value for Michael Jordan still remains the highest ever for an NBA player, including the likes of Shaq and Wilt.

LeBron will have another tough challenge thrown his way if the Nets manage to find the chemistry to meet them in the Finals.

The Lakers are off to a hot start and are leading the league standings in their defense of their 2020 championship. But the newly-formed Big 3 in Brooklyn is going to shake things up all around.

However, it’s also an opportunity for James to display that he’s beaten the toughest teams en route to 5 or more titles. That’s what Perkins believes James will have proved by beating the Brooklyn Nets.

The Lakers will also have to get past the tough gauntlet of the Western Conference playoffs to meet the Nets in the Finals. The Clippers are smarting from last year’s knockout. The Denver Nuggets have improved from last season. The likes of Utah Jazz and the Blazers are potential banana skins for every team.
