In a recent interview with ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, Isiah Thomas seemed to have a few good words for his arch-nemesis, Michael Jordan.

While Michael Jordan is widely regarded as the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T), none of his colleagues ever heard him say it himself. It was a title/compliment bestowed on the 6 time Champion by those around him and not the other way around.
It isn’t rare to hear today’s NBA players declaring themselves as great or the G.O.A.T. It is one thing for a player’s colleagues or the media to give him such a title and an entirely different thing to make such big claims on your own.
Despite the never-ending rivalry that seems to exist between Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan, the former went onto to give Jordan somewhat of a compliment which might come as a shock to many.
“I’ll bring this up, we never heard Michael Jordan say he was the greatest ever to play” – Isiah Thomas
Former 2 time NBA champion and leader of the Detroit Pistons, Isiah Thomas was quick to point out yet another major difference between the era of professional basketball he was a part of and the one that exists as of today.
In his telephonic conversation with Greeny, the Bad Boy Piston couldn’t help but mention how today’s players lack a certain amount of humility and respect (12:35 – 13:44 in the video below):
“Well, we come from an era of humbleness and respect. This is an era where they claim they’re the best. This is a generation that says, I’m the greatest to do it and they put their stamp on it and they claim it. We come from an era where don’t claim it we let others claim it and fight about it.”

Today while the media does enjoy bringing up the G.O.A.T debate again and again with generational talents like LeBron James, Steph Curry and more competing in the NBA, it is hard to imagine someone like MJ or Bill Russell referring to themselves as “KING” in their Instagram handle.
