Michael Jordan is known for many things. His skills as a player, his iconic shoes, his obsession with winning, and of course his gambling.

His Airness loved to gamble, even over the smallest of things. This borderline addiction was quite a problem for MJ, especially considering the debts he racked up.
One such debt, which was just shy of $1 million even led to a heated argument. An argument that took place in Jordan’s own home.

Michael Jordan got into a heated argument over a $1 million debt while his ex-wife hosted a former Super Bowl MVP
Back in his playing days, Michael Jordan participated in a number of different sports. His favorite among them, apart from basketball, was golf. A sport he took seriously.
Jordan played golf so much that it reached a point where he began betting on his own game. It was here he met Richard Esquinas, a businessman who claims MJ owed him a lot of money. To be exact, a figure just shy of $1 million. An amount he hoped to collect when he was invited to Jordan’s residence for dinner one night. Unfortunately, things didn’t go well and even got heated.
All in the presence of Juanita Vanoy and former Super Bowl MVP Richard Dent.
“The next night, Esquinas joined Michael and Juanita and the Chicago Bears’ Richard Dent and his wife at the Jordan home for dinner. Jordan and Esquinas had been differing over the golf debt for months. They had played intermittently over the season, and Jordan now owed just under a million. Eventually, the topic came up that night. He and Jordan retreated to the kitchen, where their tone turned heated.”

Esquinas and Jordan’s interactions were further detailed in Roland Lazenby’s book Michael Jordan: The Life. Needless to say it wasn’t pretty.
The media tried linking James Jordan’s murder to MJ’s gambling
At one point, Jordan’s gambling problem was so bad that it attracted a lot of attention. So much so, that when Michael tragically lost his father James Jordan, the media began suggesting that the murder could be related to the Hall of Famer’s gambling.
James Jordan’s death alone could have pushed MJ to retirement. But look at how everything spun together in 1993:
May: Atlantic City
June: Esquinas
July: Esquinas point spread
August: James Jordan found murderedImmediately, reporters speculated about James’s death.

Of course, this was not the case at all. And, anyone still suggesting the same given the facts that have come to light is completely in the wrong.
