Michael Jordan’s Mom, Deloris Jordan, Held One Capitalist Achievement Higher Than Her Son’s Accolades in 1991
There are certain expectations on your shoulder when you are Michael Jordan. To deliver is your calling. One that the Bulls legend answered with an oomph. But for his mother Deloris Jordan, one singular and slightly capitalist achievement overshadowed everything else.
Yes, for momma Deloris, an American through and through, one thing was held higher. Not his championship or his 5 scoring titles. Nope.
In 1991, Deloris was proud to see her son the face of a cereal brand! Yes, a cereal brand!
“How many moms can walk in the grocery store and see their son all over the cereal counter?”: Deloris Jordan was proud of Michael’s appearance on Wheaties Box!
In an interview with the Jordan Family, by Sports Illustrated, Deloris revealed that to her, she valued one thing more than her son’s crowning achievement.
“How many moms can walk in the grocery store and see their son all over the cereal counter?” Deloris tells SI. The achievement, albeit thoroughly American, is that Jordan’s face was recently on the box of Wheaties. A household cereal brand and one that Deloris knows quite well.
It makes her “most proud”, in her own words. Deloris has always been a beacon of inspiration for her son. Always.

She played an instrumental role in shaping Michael’s character and work ethic. Deloris served as a strong and supportive presence throughout his life and career. She instilled in Michael, a deep sense of determination and a commitment to hard work, ideals that he followed throughout his career.
