Nikola Jokic is a savant. There are no better words that we can use to describe this phenomenal player than savant. He is the finest representation of a player who understands the game at the highest level. To be a center and to have the craft that he does is simply unprecedented. Now, he has tied Michael Jordan for an absolutely mindboggling NBA record.

Usually, when we speak of Nikola Jokic and records, we associate another center, Wilt Chamberlain. And, of course, the Serbian is breaking or matching Chamberlain’s many records every day.
But this time, he has matched Michael Jordan for an NBA record, or should we say, an NBA metric that looked untouchable.
Nikola Jokic has tied Michael Jordan for the best career box plus-minus in history!
Nikola is leading the Nuggets to the best record in the west and in the MVP conversation, he sits atop the ladder. Luka Doncic trails him closely, however, with each passing day Jokic’s case for a 3rd MVP gets stronger.
But to tie Michael Jordan to a list that shows his effectiveness on a court is simply legendary.
For a more detailed explanation, BBall Ref describes Box Plus Minus as
“Box Plus/Minus, Version 2.0 (BPM) is a basketball box score-based metric that estimates a basketball player’s contribution to the team when that player is on the court.”

And in terms of a numeric breakdown, averaging 8 throughout your career is nothing short of GOAT. Nikola has trumped LeBron and tied MJ with 9.21. Simply spectacular.
The Joker leads stats and numbers but championships elude him
Nikola’s rise to the top is nothing surprising. Anyone who saw him play knew of the impact he could have made. As the accolades keep coming in, the comparisons increase. To be compared to the likes of Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan shows the sheer potential that a player has.
The Joker, while putting up all-time numbers and leading various metrics is yet to get his hands on the most coveted prize of them all, the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
This season, the Nuggets look good. Nikola’s supporting cast finally looks like they can deliver and on the back of a potential 3-time MVP, they should reach at least the NBA Finals.
The final stage is where they will be well tested and it will be one where we will get to see whether the numbers really matter or not.
