On this day 21 years ago Shaquille O’Neal, alongside Kobe Bryant won their third championship together. The duo led the LA Lakers to a three-peat, making them only the fifth team in history to do so. It was a massive accomplishment and has made Big Diesel a bit nostalgic. Hours after Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray won their first NBA Championship, Shaq shared an Instagram story with his 30,900,000 fans. One that reminded them of what a dominant force he and The Black Mamba were.

Jokic and Murray have been gaining a lot of attention recently as one of the best duos in their generation. With a championship in the bag, and perhaps more to come, a case for them to be one of the best of all time can be made. That being said, they still have a ways to go. And, in his own way, Shaq wanted to remind people of that by remembering his glory days.

Shaquille O’Neal reminded of his three-peat win with Kobe Bryant following Nuggets’ championship win

The Nuggets just made history, winning their first-ever championship. It was a team effort, but a lot of the credit goes to the stellar play of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. The duo was on fire throughout the Playoffs and their stellar performances reminded many of a prime Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

However, they still have a long ways to go. After all, Shaq and Kobe were a duo like no other, winning three NBA Championships together and securing a three-peat on this very day back in 2002. In fact, Shaq reminded his fans of this with a video he recently shared on Instagram.

The video pays homage to the dynasty that he and Kobe forged. In particular, it touches upon how dominant a pairing the two were. It seems as though watching Jokic and Murray win the chip sent The Big Aristotle down memory lane. And, in turn, he chose to send his 30,900,000 followers down the same path.

It certainly is quite the tear-jerking story. And while many may think Shaq is raining on Nikola Jokic’s parade, it is actually quite the opposite. Seeing as the Hall of Famer has had nothing but praise for Joker throughout these Playoffs.

Shaq was full of praise for Nikola Jokic as the league looks destined to change with the Nuggets’ win

Despite being nostalgic about his glory days, Shaquille O’Neal has taken nothing away from Nikola Jokic. Joker has been exceptional throughout the Nuggets’ Playoff run, and Shaq acknowledges the same. He has time and time again praised Jokic and even regards him as the best center in today’s NBA.

“I’m happy that a big man is now named the best player in the league. Listen… he plays with poise, he plays with confidence, and he plays the right way.”

Jokic truly is one of the best in the league and this championship win will certainly change the landscape of the NBA. With how he changed the game, perhaps teams may go back to building their roster around a big man. Especially if they pick up one as talented and as special as the Joker.
