Scoring points in the NBA has become easier than ever, as evident by the scoring outbursts we saw from players during the 2022-23 season. Right before the Playoffs started, we’d already seen 23 50-point games. There were countless more 40-point games. However, the same wasn’t the norm a few years ago. Shaquille O’Neal recently took to his Instagram to share a video about Klay Thompson‘s 37-point quarter in 2015.

Back in 2015, Klay Thomspon went berserk against the Kings, going off for 37 points in the 3rd quarter. He shot 9-9 from the deep and 13-13 from the field. Going off for 37 in the quarter, Klay ended the game early in the 4th with 52 points, two rebounds, five assists, four steals, and two blocks.
There is a George Gervin video circulating on social media where he talks about Klay breaking his record. Shaq took no time and shared the same clip.
Shaquille O’Neal shares George Gervin’s words about Klay Thompson
Klay Thompson turning on the flamethrower in 2015 is one of the best memories about the Warriors sharpshooter. However, there was one person who wasn’t all that happy about it. Enroute his 37, Klay broke the previous record of most points in a quarter co-held by George Gervin and Carmelo Anthony(33). In an interview, Gervin can be heard saying how he did it without the 3-point line. He even went on to say,
“Y’all supposed to put an asterisk on Klay Thompson’s 37”

Shaquille O’Neal must have seen Iceman’s snippet on his Instagram feed and couldn’t help but share it on his Instagram story.

We don’t know whether Shaq agrees with what Gervin said about getting an asterisk on Klay’s record or whether he found it atrocious enough to share it. However, seeing his liking for Klay’s Splash Brother Steph, it’s hard to see the big man dissing the Warriors sharpshooter.
Other impressive Klay records
Klay Thompson is a human flamethrower who is always just seconds away from being unleashed. At his best, we’ve seen him effortlessly do things that no other player can fathom doing. Here are a few instances:
- Playoff record 11 3-pointers in a game
- 60 points in 29 minutes, on just 11 dribbles
- NBA record 14 3-pointers in a game
- 43 points on just 4 dribbles
- Making 10 consecutive triples with no misses
These are just a few examples of how good the sharpshooter truly is. Hopefully, we get to see a lot more of his magic in the upcoming season.
