"Scottie Pippen is the water and I'm the bridge": Shaquille O'Neal roasted the Bulls legend in a 2016 Instagram faceoff

Shaquille O’Neal and Scottie Pippen went at each other at the height of Instagram madness, back in 2015. Shaq had a brutal roast for the Bulls legend.

It’s been a long time since we saw either of these NBA legends take the court. 10 years for Shaq, and 17 for Scottie Pippen. There already are NBA players who were in diapers during these players’ primes.

Naturally, some of the talk, hate and feuds from yesteryear have been buried under the sand over the years. The sands of time have always and will continue to always reign supreme in relegating most stories to the background.

But there are some arguments that deserve mention every once in a while. Because the antagonists on both sides create headlines with their actions, it becomes relevant to look into their past.

And so a ton of people have now turned to check the Internet for Scottie Pippen clips. Our Bulls legend has entered highly controversial territory based on his podcasts and interviews over the past week. We feel its relevant to bring back some more of his feuds to the spotlight.

“Scottie Pippen is the water and I’m the bridge”: Shaquille O’Neal roasted the Bulls legend in 2016

Shaquille O’Neal is the kind of guy who’s always characterized as sensitive about criticism for his achievements. This trope is brought about repeatedly by Chuck and Kenny on Inside the NBA.

Scottie Pippen found that out the hard way that Shaq’s prickliness isn’t limited to rings. Diesel has often posted some thought-provoking basketball opinions on social media over the years.

Back in 2016, when the NBA Finals were playing out, Shaq said that his 2001 Lakers would’ve beat the threepeating Bulls by 50. Pippen wasn’t going to let Shaq get away with such blasphemous takes, so he replied:

“Sorry @shaq but I don’t get caught up in hypotheticals. All I know is we won 6 titles, twice the amount you claimed while in LA,”

But Shaq won the battle for the best roast quite easily with his comeback on The Dan Patrick Show. This comeback is so personal that Pippen probably still regrets prickling Shaq at that time:

“I don’t let bums disrespect me. Yeah he as a great player. But I’m the bridge and he is the water. He will always be under me.”
