"That's not basketball": Steve Nash calls out Trae Young for drawing ticky-tacky fouls during Hawks vs Nets

The referees and Trae Young got an earful from Nets head coach Steve Nash after the former drew a series of cheap fouls last night.

The Hawks pushed the fancied Nets right to the brink last night in a night filled with offense. The game ended 145-141, and was only the first game of this millennium in which both the Nets and their opponents scored over 100 by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Nash admitted later on in the post-game interview that he ‘needed a beer’ after the game. It must have taken weeks off the coaches’ lives to see their defenses carved up like that.

“Maybe I need some experience taking these haymakers, you know. They’re throwing 3s in everywhere, getting rebounds, and as a new coach its hard when you can’t impact games. When you’re used to impact games, especially. But the guys hung in, that’s the number one thing.”

Steve Nash indignant with referees for calling cheap fouls on Trae Young

Steve Nash appeared to lose it in the 4th quarter after Young got another cheap foul called on him. Trae got past Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and then took a shot by backing into the retreating TLC. The Frenchman could do nothing about it, and Kevin Durant put his hands on his head in disbelief at the whistle.

Nash turned to the 3rd referee on the sideline to voice his frustration at the call.

The Nets will next play the Hawks once again on Friday night. It should be another fascinating watch if this first game is anything to go by. The Hawks have proved they can hang with anyone in the league – their offense is amazing.
