The Lakers cantered to a championship in 2020, but LeBron James and co were quite surprised not to have to get past Kawhi Leonard’s Clippers.

The Clippers had taken a commanding 3-1 lead over the Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals. Practically no one except the Nuggets team had any belief that they would come back.
The way things turned out at the end of that series left the Lakers as flabbergasted as anyone. The likes of Jared Dudley and Dwight Howard were talking epic trash about the Clippers in Game 7 when the Clippers blew their lead.

LeBron James says he was shocked by the Clippers getting knocked out
The Lakers camp must ardently have been wishing for the Clippers to make it to the Conference Finals. They had been at each other’s throats all year. The teams had a 2-2 record against each other through the regular season, and many anticipated their showdown to be a close one.
It was Kawhi Leonard and Paul George choking in Game 7 against the Nuggets that led to them blowing a double-digit lead to lose by double digits themselves.
LeBron James came out and said during the Conference Finals that they were only concerned with the Clippers in a preparatory sort of way. But it seems he was lying through his teeth at the time, and was totally jubilant at the manner of their bitter rivals’ choke.
LeBron on the Clippers blowing a 3-1 lead:
“All of that shit talking they were doing… and they put themselves in a position to get what they been talking about all year and they didn’t seek the opportunity when it was right there up 3-1”
