Rajon Rondo had no patience when a reporter interviewed him in the Pelicans’ locker room following a 53-point outing by Anthony Davis.

Back in 2018, Anthony Davis was having a monster month in February. He was dominating the court on both ends and was trying his best to cover up for DeMarcus Cousins, who had a season-ending Achilles injury.

Anthony Davis continued his hot streak when the New Orleans Pelicans met with the Phoenix Suns. He went off and scored 53 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, had 5 blocks, 3 assists, and recorded one steal in 39 minutes – a monstrous outing to cap a dominant month.
After the game, a reporter went into the locker room to ask a few questions from his teammates, and what Rondo responded with was unexpected.
“What do you want me to do? Suck him off?”: Rajon Rondo
Rajon Rondo, upon being interviewed by reporter Jeff Duncan had a very inappropriate response. Duncan had asked him about Rondo’s opinion on the greatness AD was exhibiting. Rondo responded with something that threw the reporter off and gave a bad impression for a lifetime.
My lasting impression of Rondo came in locker room scrum after Anthony Davis had 53 vs. Suns:
Me: You’ve played with & against a lot of great players in your career. Can you put into perspective what A.D. is doing right now?
Rondo: Whatcha want me to do? Suck him off?
Me: Uh.

There can be a multitude of reasons as to why Rondo responded the way he did. That particular time, Rondo was going through a shooting slump and had recorded only 6 points in his 36 minutes on the court. He was also visibly frustrated with the Pelicans back then and was expecting a trade by the deadline.
All that is said and done, the relations between AD and Rondo have had no impact due to this comment. They were teammates on the 2020 Lakers championship team and did spectacular work together.
Rajon Rondo is now probably not returning to the Lakers, after declining his player option. Anthony Davis is also an unrestricted free agent, although he is expected to be back in a Lakers jersey next season.
