This 2020-2021 NBA season was the most unexpected season for defending champions Los Angeles Lakers. Behind the All-Star leadership duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers were strongly considered as the favourites to defend their title.
The title contenders went from being one of the deadliest teams on paper, to barely making the postseason. Of course, injuries were a big concern for LAL. It, unfortunately, played a major role in their fall in production over the course of the season.
While LBJ and AD were sidelined for 27 and 36 games in the regular season respectively, other pivotal players like Denis Schroder had to miss out on games because of the league’s health and safety protocols.
“Groin feels good. We’re going to be ready for next year”: Anthony Davis
The 7th seeded Lakers fought hard in the newly-added controversial play-in tournament just to face a young and determined Phoenix Suns team led by veteran Chris Paul.
Even though the stars came off injuries, many fans and analysts were optimistic that King James would be able to lead his team to a deep playoffs run.
Much to their surprise, the in-form Suns eliminated the Lakers in 6 games and handed LeBron his first first-round playoff exit ever. Immediately after the conclusion of their 2020-2021 campaign, Davis and Bron announced they wouldn’t be participating at the Olympics for Team USA, and rather would work on their injury and movie respectively.
It’s been almost two weeks since the Lakers last played Game 6 of the first round of the postseason. While playing GTA V, on his recent stream, Davis gave an update on his groin injury. The 8-time All-Star also warned the league to be aware of a healthier LA Lakers next year. The Brow said:
“I feel good tho, chat. Groin feels real good. Trust me; we’re going to be ready for next year. We’re going to be right.”
With ample time in their hands this offseason, we know for a fact that a LeBron James inspired Los Angeles Lakers team will come ready with a vengeance.
