When Manchester United Star Declared Luka Doncic One of the Greatest Slovenian Athletes in History

Benjamin Sesko has become quite the sensation in the soccer world over the summer. The former RB Leipzig forward was recently purchased by Premier League giants Manchester United, and could soon become a star. He even showed off his basketball chops in an interview once, giving his take on fellow Slovenian Luka Doncic and his trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Doncic trade will go down as one of those moments in sports history where “you simply had to be there” to understand how crazy it was. It wasn’t just that it was shocking. For a brief moment, the entire NBA community refused to believe it was real. For about 20 minutes, fans seriously questioned the legitimacy of the tweet from insider Shams Charania.

When the trade was made official and other reporters confirmed the news, nobody could believe it. The Dallas Mavericks, a team that had just been in the Finals a season earlier, had really traded their franchise cornerstone to LA. Sesko had the same reaction as the majority of the fanbase.

“Of course, I was shocked, you know. It just happened like this, you know, all of a sudden. But I think it was also good. I think it’s still like, he likes it and all. He’s enjoying playing with a big guy, you know, LeBron. And I think they’re having fun,” Sesko shared on CBS Sports Golazo.

LeBron James and Doncic certainly had fun playing together last year. In the 23 games together, the Lakers went 15-8. Beating teams like the Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, and Oklahoma City Thunder. However, Doncic was reportedly not thrilled about the trade initially. He might like it in LA now, but when it happened, some say he threw his phone out of frustration. Not to mention, the Mavs trash-talked him as he left the team, citing his weight and conditioning.

Sesko, however, wouldn’t agree. As far as he’s concerned, Doncic is already one of the greatest athletes his country has ever produced. He doesn’t care which team in the NBA Luka reps. In his interview, he was asked which Slovenian athletes he would put on his personal Mount Rushmore.

“I will start with [Jan] Oblak, a football player. Then I would go with Roglic, in biking,” Sesko shared. “Roglic over Pogacar?” the host questioned. “Both… Four, it’s Doncic,” the new Manchester United striker replied. An interesting list all in all. One soccer player, one NBA player, and two cyclists.

Furthermore, the fact that Doncic has already made the list of the best Slovenian athletes at 26 says a lot about his skill level. Even though he has yet to win any silverware in the NBA, he’s widely recognized as a magical player who should walk away with trophies when it’s all said and done. We just have to be a little more patient. Maybe it starts next season.
