A throwback to an ESPN commercial starring Stephen Curry and former Warriors’ head coach Mark Jackson with references to Steph’s draft night

Ever since his time in High School, Stephen Curry was always doubted. This resulted in Curry receiving just three full scholarship offers from colleges. As we all know, Steph signed with Davidson. He played at Davidson for three years, earning All-American honors in his Junior year. He was the NCAA scoring leader for the season. It was then when he decided to declare for the NBA Draft.

Going at the 7th spot to the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry was still doubted by quite a few players. Curry had a sensational rookie season, finishing as the runner-up in the Rookie of the Year race. He broke multiple franchise records and matched Michael Jordan on quite a few rookie records. After a few initial setbacks with injury, Stephen Curry made his first All-Star appearance in 2013. Since then, the past is the past. Curry has 3x NBA Championships to his name. He is a 2x NBA MVP, including the only unanimous MVP honors the NBA has ever seen.

Stephen Curry, even though he has risen and proven himself above and beyond, still is doubted a lot. Curry singlehandedly changed the game of basketball, yet he doesn’t receive his praises for the same. He has been doubted all along, and would probably be doubted till he retires.

ESPN made fun of the same in a 2013 commercial. They had Mark Jackson, who was the head coach of the Warriors then and Stephen Curry star in a commercial. There Curry finds Jackson’s notebook, which had notes for all the draft selections in Jackson’s tenure. There under his name, Curry found the following note:

“Too short. Too slow. With luck, maybe a career in Turkey”

Well, Curry not only proved his coach wrong, but also the entire NBA world. He worked his way through the top and immortalized his name in the NBA record books. If any doubts exist, the Warriors, with the return of Klay Thompson, should take care of that in the upcoming season.
