Gilbert Arenas drops a scathing comment about the New York Knicks and their fanbase, on why no one wants to play for them

Last season was a resurgent one for the New York Knicks. After years upon years of being the laughing stock of the league, the team finally put it all together, and actually ended the regular season as the fourth seed in a loaded Eastern Conference.
The fans have of course been a huge part of all this. And to be fair to them, during this past campaign, their support during every home game was incredible. But, as we all know, the dark ages that lasted till just a year prior, were very different in this respect.
As a former player, and now a dialed-in fan of the NBA, Gilbert Arenas had seen it all happen first hand. And well, the year before this resurgence began, the man had some scathing words for Knicks fans around the world,
Let’s get into it.
“You’re the worst fanbase in basketball”: Gilbert Arenas gave it to the New York Knicks fans like it was just a few short years ago
To be clear here, Arenas said this about a year before the Knicks put it all together. And so, to be fair to him, while what he said was harsh, there was certainly some truth there as well.
But, what did he say exactly, you ask? Take a look.
“The whole fan base of the Knicks is stuck back in the 1970s. It shows nobody wants to play for you because you’re the worst fanbase in basketball. If your team would rather play on the road because they’re more comfortable, then that says something about your home experience.”

While the Knicks have since recovered, we do believe that the fanbase still has some of these lingering issues. Perhaps with time though, if the franchise stays competitive, we could see support climbing back to the days of old. And as fans of the sport, we personally would love to see that happen once again, in the Mecca of basketball.
