Neymar to Barcelona: Antoine Griezmann’s arrival to the Catalan club brings tactical and financial complications with Neymar’s return.
Barcelona have recently announced the signing of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid after triggering the colossal release clause of the French International.
On the other side, Barcelona were also planning to buy Neymar from PSG, as he wants to make a return to the Catalan club after falling out with the hierarchy at Les Parisiens.
However, with Barcelona submitting the massive release clause of €120 million for Griezmann, the Catalan giants might not take a risk of paying another mammoth fee for the Brazilian International, which could land them in a financial crises.
The Blaugranas already made several hefty signings of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmanne Dembele last summer, both of them failed to stand up to the expectations, especially Coutinho, who is the record breaking fee signing by Barcelona.
Even though, the potential crisis do exist, it would not be surprising if Barcelona make a bid for Neymar, as the Catalan giants have recently been subject to string of bizarre transfer activities.
Although, it would be undoubtedly beneficial for Barcelona, if they avoid Neymar, especially after Griezmann’s declaration. The wage structure at Barcelona is the highest among all the football clubs in the world.
If the two world class footballers join the Spanish Champions, it will surely further destabilize the finances with sky-rocketing wages. Further with Atletico Madrid accusing Barcelona for a negotiation breach, they might have to add €80 million more in Griezmann’s transfer. Thus, increasing Barcelona’s financial obligation.
Now coming to the team structure size, Barcelona already have an over-loaded midfield, and with the arrival of Griezmann and Neymar, it will surely overload the bench. Barcelona already have Lionel Messi, Dembele, Luis Suarez, Malcolm and Philippe Coutinho competing for the front-3 spots.
Hence, it will surely bring a tactical complexity for Ernesto Valverde, who already gets criticism for his poor rotations. Hence, in all possibility with Griezmann closing towards Nou Camp, chances of Neymar coming back to his former club are massively slender, and ideally Neymar’s transfer pursuit by Barcelona should be dropped.
How twitter reacted
Griezmann to Barcelona surely scuppers Neymar move. Or, as someone connected tells me: "Unsettled him. Made PSG say he can go. Then leave him there. Genius, even if not intended."
