10 Years Before Emerging as Shannon Sharpe's Possible Replacement, Richard Sherman Destroyed Skip Bayless for Being Disrespectful

Richard Sherman seems to be the one running in line to replace Shannon Sharpe as the new co-host on ‘The Undisputed’. However, Sherman’s history with Skip Bayless is a complicated one, to say the least. As it turns out, Richard had once destroyed Bayless for being arrogant and pompous while addressing him.

A decade ago, in a segment on ESPN’s ‘First Take’, Skip Bayless and Richard Sherman went on a spree, taking turns to destroy each other. The episode began with Sherman getting invited on the show, for an interaction with Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith. The team was asked to remain on the topics related to on-field performances and skip any conversation on personal topics. However, as the segment began, things took a twist for the worse.

Story of Skip Bayless vs Richard Sherman segment on ESPN’s ‘First Take’

The ‘First Take’ episode in question dates back to March 7, 2013, when the co-hosts Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless were to interview Sherman. They agreed to oblige on Sherman’s agent’s request for a game-related discussion with the NFL star. However, as the show began, Sherman fired shots at Bayless, who couldn’t hold back from replying. Sherman took a bitter tone with Skip Bayless, calling him “an ignorant, pompous, egotistical cretin.”

Later, Bayless replied to Sherman’s disrespectful demeanor and defended his position by saying,

“He personally attacked me. Unrelentingly attacked me. So much for ‘Please, no controversy today.’ I immediately felt ambushed, bushwhacked, set up, blindsided. I was suddenly . . . forced to fight without fighting. I had to defend myself with both hands tied behind my back.”

The viral video, with Richard Sherman and Skip Bayless in a face-off, floats on the internet to date. While many reckon that it might complicate things for the people who are trying to bring the two broadcasters together, some also think that a segment like this serves as the perfect bit for hyping up the show.

Sherman and Bayless in a Reconciliation Meeting

The NY Post recently reported that Skip Bayless and Richard Sherman have allegedly commenced discussions on joining hands. Being the host to Amazon’s pregame, halftime, and postgame coverage, Sherman has all the necessary credentials required to replace Shannon.

Quoting their sources, NY Post claimed in their report that Richard Sherman and Bayless were seen meeting at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of joining forces. Despite their past disagreements, it was evident that both parties were open to the idea of a collaboration.

This meeting added an interesting dynamic to the realm of opinion-based television. It will be interesting to see if Bayless and Sherman actually end up shouting at each other on the new and revamped edition of ‘The Undisputed.’
