Aaron Rodgers and the Packers had a disappointing end to a disappointing season, and it brings up the question of if the Packers legend will retire now.

The Packers had an up-and-down season. They struggled out of the gates and compiled a losing record, going 3-6 to start the year. That horrible start put the Packers behind immediately, forcing them to play recovery mode all year long.
To give them credit, they did recover quite well. After that 3-6 start, they’d go 5-2 to position themselves at 8-8 for the year with a chance to make the playoffs in week 18.
They faced off against divisional foe Detroit Lions with a ‘win-and-in’ scenario. However, Rodgers and the Packers couldn’t deliver, losing the game 20-16. It was an uninspired effort for a team with a lot on the line. It was even more disappointing considering the Lions had been eliminated after the Seahawks won and essentially had nothing to play for.

Aaron Rodgers contract details for the 2023 season
With the Packers loss, Aaron Rodgers’ availability for the 2023 season suddenly comes into question. For some reason, Rodgers was inclined to hold on to his jersey after the game, even though nothing memorable had come of the night.
Is it a sign that he might be calling it quits? After all, there was a lot of speculation that he would retire this offseason, but instead, he came back with a contract extension.
The contract runs through 2024, and if Rodgers comes back for the 2023 season, he is set to make $59.5 million. Walking away from that much money will be hard, but does Rodgers really need it?
Right now, the Packers seem unlikely to build a championship-winning roster in just one off-season. They lost their best receiver in Davante Adams last season, and this season showed how valuable he was to the team.
Rodgers’ contract runs till the 2024 season when he is set to make $49.3 million. His retirement right now could come costly for the Packers who would incur a big dead cap hit.
