Broncos Safety Justin Simmons Reveals How Religious Russell Wilson Inspired Him to “Worship Jesus Through the Valleys”

Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson is not the most liked personality in the NFL community, through no real fault of his own. Just because he has had a bad season, he has been getting a lot of flak throughout last season. However, a number of his teammates have come forward on multiple occasions to back their captain. Now, Broncos safety Justin Simmons reveals the kind of impact Wilson had on him and his faith.

Wilson is an extremely religious man and often goes out of his way to help his teammates in their spiritual journey. According to him, Jesus came to him in a dream when he was 14, leading to him finding his faith. His religiosity gained even more traction when he and his then-fiance Ciara Harris announced that they would abstain from making love until they were married.

Justin Simmon says he is thankful for Russell Wilson

Broncos’ safety Justin Simmons appeared on the Sports Spectrum Podcast. Simmons conversed at length with Jade McCarthy about his faith, his marriage, on-field performance, and how Russell Wilson is helping him become more of a leader, and guiding him in order to better understand and embrace his faith.

“I’m just so thankful, for Russ, for my mentors that I talk to, my counselor… The wisdom that God is showing me through my quiet time…It’s been difficult, but I’m learning to enjoy it, just as Russ did. I’m learning to enjoy and truly worship Jesus through the valleys,” Simmons says on the podcast. It seems Wilson has had a profound impact on Simmon’s life and his faith.

Wilson will need a lot of strength for what’s coming this season

While Wilson‘s leadership and his faith in God are commendable, his performance on the gridiron last season is not. The Broncos ended last season with one of the worst records in the league. To make matters worse, Wilson managed to get sacked 55 times, a career and team record. For fans who thought Wilson would be their savior, he turned out to be their worst nightmare.

However, things are sure to change in Denver, with the arrival of new head coach Sean Payton. Payton is a no-nonsense coach and is well known for holding his players to strict standards. Whether that will work with Wilson, is to be seen. One thing fans can be sure about is if Payton cannot fix Wilson’s performance, they might very well have the most expensive benchwarmer in NFL history.
