Chicago Bears NFL Draft 2023: Top 5 Tight End Prospects the “Self-Sabotaging Bears” Might Target

With just a couple of days left for the NFL draft 2023, fans have been making bold predictions for D-day. The Chicago Bears are among the few franchises looking for opportunities to improve their position and strengthen their defensive and offensive units. Here we take a look at the top five Tight End prospects that Matt Eberflus might target this season.

On April 27, Kansas City will host the grand event for the first time ever. Hence it becomes necessary to meet the expectations. The opening day will see the franchises making their round-one picks starting at 8:00 pm ET. Around 31 picks are scheduled to go off the boards, with the Dolphins being ineligible this year. On the next day, the second and third rounds will be held, and Day 3 will witness NFL teams making their fourth to seventh-round selections.

Chicago Bears might target these five Tight Ends

General Manager Ryan Poles pulled out a great deal this offseason by transferring their first overall pick to the Panthers. It is yet to be seen how effective this move turned out in their favor because the franchise has received a couple of picks and star wide receiver DJ Moore in return.

While Justin Fields got a new weapon, the Bears will be looking at a complete revamp in the Offensive unit. As a result, the Tight End position remains a hot spot to fill the talents in.

The Utah product Dalton Kincaid is first on the list because of his incredible ability to block and rush across the field. His sticky hands setting a college record for perfect completions has earned him the top spot.

Next up, Michael Mayer from Notre Dame remains an interesting prospect. He is a real game-changer weighing 249 pounds and stands tall at 6’4″. His 18 career touchdowns and old-school abilities might lure the Bears.

The Oregon State’s Luke Musgrave is an absolute beast standing at 6’6″ possesses the ability to penetrate great defenses. Although his tryst with frequent injuries remains a matter of concern, his ability to outsmart opponents can’t be overlooked.

Darnell Washington from Georgia is fourth on this list and can become an impact player for NFL teams. All those windows catches can be easily executed, a trustworthy weapon for a quarterback.

The last athlete to earn a spot is South Dakota’s Sam LaPorta. His numbers in college might not appear impressive; however, his ability to remain an underdog and make incredible catches is a great achievement.

What did the Bears earn from their off-season trade?

Every year teams pull out blockbuster trades to improve their position. This year, the Bears made headlines after deciding to give up their first overall pick. The Panthers agreed on terms and found this an opportunity to recruit a quarterback in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft.

The Bears see it as a win-win situation because they have received DJ Moore in return. While speaking about the draft picks, the franchise has a ninth pick in Round 1, the 61st pick in this year’s draft, a second rounder in 2025, and a first-round pick in 2024. It will be interesting to see how they utilize these selections on April 27.
