Colin Cowherd Disdainfully Compares Trey Lance to 'Digital Monkeys & Cryptocurrencies' to Douse the Hype Around Him; "Makes Too Many Mistakes"

Trey Lance, in his first game of the preseason, displayed that he is not yet ready to take up the role as a QB1. He evidently lags behind Brock Purdy in accuracy and has a lot to improve which has made Colin Cowherd double down on his rant. Colin not only mentioned that Lance was way behind the QB competition in the 49ers but also disdainfully compared him to the downfall of “Digital Monkeys” and “Cryptocurrency.”

In his recent episode of the Herd With Colin Cowherd, the NFL analyst only had harsh things to say about Trey Lance. Reflecting on Lance’s second appearance in the preseason game, Cowherd was straight-up ranting about the fact that his shaky start depicts that he is not even fit to be a backup for Kyle Shanahan.

Colin Cowherd Heavily Criticises Trey Lance

Trey Lance, in his second preseason game, threw for 12 on 18 attempts for 173 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Apparently, that was not enough to impress Colin Cowherd. Adding to his list of why Trey Lance is not the answer for the San Francisco 49ers’ roster, he made a vivid comparison between him and cryptocurrencies.

“Digital Monkeys, cryptocurrency. It is okay to fall for stuff, but don’t double down on it,” Cowherd said. “Trey Lance is not gonna be the starter. He makes too many mistakes. It’s one of those things where it could be somewhere, it’s just not here for this team on the Super Bowl roster. Cause they are very good.  Brock Purdy’s gonna get the start because of last year. Darnold’s had the best camp. He’s been great. He’s been absolutely great.”

It was made clear by Kyle Shanahan a few days ago that the QB1 role certainly belongs to Brock Purdy, and that he would have to “melt in practice” to lose his starting job. Furthermore, many including Peter King believe that the QB2 role belongs to Sam Darnold because of his great form that everyone witnessed during camp. All this leaves Trey Lance as a third-string quarterback for the 49ers.

Fans Cook Theories to Understand the Reason Behind Cowherd’s Criticism of Trey Lance

Even though many believe that Trey Lance is in fact way behind in the QB1 discussion, fans suspect personal bias, due to which Colin Cowherd disdainfully rants on him. Lance, not long ago, was rumored to be dating Cowherd’s daughter Liv and as per reports, the two have seemingly broken up.

Referring to this, many fans are not buying the sudden uproar of Colin Cowherd on the Niners QB. However, rushing to this conclusion is definitely not right, especially when none of the reports about their alleged relationship or breakup was ever confirmed.

Moreover, almost everyone is convinced that Brock Purdy deserves the leading position, solely because of his incredible stats from last season. It will be interesting to see how the 49ers perform this season.
