The contest is a massive deal for Durham as it is the first time since 2004 that the Blue Devils have beaten Clemson. The impressive win resulted from Duke’s phenomenal running game that got them three touchdowns including one by the QB Riley Leonard. As the game came to an end with just 30 seconds on the clock, the Durham sidelines turned all blue as all the fans were ready to storm in with passion.
Duke Fans Paint Wallace Wade Field Blue
As Clemson got denied in Durham, fans left the stands and rushed to the field. The sidelines turned blue with emotional fans hooting the popular Seven Nation Army song. As soon as the final whistle was blown, fans painted the Wallace Wade field blue. They swarmed around QB Riley Leonard who played huge role in the incredible victory.
QB Leonard put both his rushing and receiving skills on full display after he scrambled for 98 yards in 8 carries, scoring a touchdown while also recording 175 yards in 17 throws and 33 attempts without an interception. He later took full advantage of the limelight to ask his college professor to extend his homework deadline in his postgame interview.
“This is Duke football,” coach Mike Elko said pointing at the surrounding crowd. “We Got the best of both worlds a chance to really compete and do amazing things on and off the field. This is what I envisioned Duke could be when I took this job.” As one can expect, on ESPN’s video in which the final moments of the game were covered, fans left innumerable heartening reactions. “Historic, surreal, incredible,” one fan reacted. While another one wrote, “man, what a win.”
Blue Devils Fans Will Possibly Have More Chances to Storm the Field
After the game, Clemson’s coach Dabo Swinney gave a glimpse of how special this Duke team is. “In all my years of football,” he said. “I have never been a part of a game like that.” This simply shows that the unit is set to have a great season ahead, due to which, Blue Devils fans will get more chances to storm the field, especially on 30th September.

Duke is set to face Notre Dame on 30th September in Wallace Wade Stadium and it is expected to be an intense game of football. It is likely that the ACC could impose a fine on Duke for fans swarming the field. However, given how monumental such wins can be for the entire college, it is unlikely that even a fine would stop fans from celebrating wildly on the field.
