Arch-Rivals Peyton Manning & Mark Sanchez Trade Insults in Commercial For “Peyton’s Places”

Peyton Manning and Mark Sanchez

Mark Sanchez was a sensational player during his playing days. While he may not have won any Super Bowls, he was nothing short of a class act. That being said, there will be one encounter he feels is akin to winning a Super Bowl for him: beating Peyton Manning’s Indianapolis Colts in the 2011 playoffs. What’s more, he ensures Manning doesn’t forget about it either.

Appearing with Manning for ESPN+’s show, ‘Peyton’s Places’, Manning and Sanchez appear to talk about a minor ‘fender bender’. When Sanchez asks Manning if he rear-ended Sanchez’s car, Manning says, “I don’t know, I think you probably rear-ended me!” Manning is referring to the game in 2012, when Sanchez slammed into the b*tt of his offensive lineman, resulting in a fumble and pick-six.

Manning doesn’t stop there either, calling Sanchez’s busted fender a “Butt Fender”, saying he couldn’t help himself. However, Sanchez had a shot lined up under his sleeve too. When trying to exchange numbers for insurance purposes, Sanchez recites an odd, but a familiar combination of numbers. “16-17”, goes Sanchez. Manning was quick to pick up that it was only 4 digits. Only it wasn’t.

Those paying attention will realize this is the scoreline from the last time Sanchez and Manning faced each other in the playoffs. The one where Sanchez’s heroic last-second play call resulted in a win by the slimmest of margins. Manning seems to have forgotten it entirely though and wasn’t very amused when he was reminded of the game. Especially since he threw a pick in the first half. Prankster gets pranked?

Mark Sanchez vs Peyton Manning: a storied rivalry of comics

Peyton Manning is a known prankster. During his time with the Indianapolis colts, he was quite the practical joker, earning him the title “king of practical jokes”. But his jokes did not stop with just his teammates, as Sanchez found out quite often. Manning was the host of the 25th ESPY awards back in 2017. In his opening monologue, he took a swing at two different people, in two different sports, with a single line.

“Phil Jackson’s Knicks are the most embarrassing thing to happen in New York sports — and that includes the time Mark Sanchez ran full steam up his teammate’s anus and fumbled a football,” he said. Apart from Sanchez’s legendary “Butt Fumble”, Manning is taking a shot at the NBA team New York Knicks, who had just finished that season 31-51.

Manning’s retirement has been an eventful one. With a plethora of shows to host, Manning seems content with his current situation. However, with his brother Eli Manning eyeing a possible return to the NFL as a head coach, will he look for a similar path to tread? The brothers are already facing off against each other in the Pro Bowl games this season, as Peyton leads the AFC against Eli’s NFC.
