”I'd love to play with him again”: Alabama WR DeVonta Smith would be excited to reunite with Jalen Hurts on the Philadelphia Eagles

DeVonta Smith is a stud and will in all likeliness be a star for whatever team drafts him in the upcoming NFL draft. The Philadelphia Eagles traded down to no. 12, and will definitely be in the market to draft a wide receiver. If the Alabama wide-out does fall all the way to 12, Smith says he will be excited to reunite with Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.

DeVonta Smith was electric in 2020. The Alabama wide-out destroyed every defence that stood against him, on his way to become only the 2nd wide receiver to win the Heisman trophy. After losing fellow star wideout Jaylen Waddle to injury, Smith shouldered the responsibility and was undoubtedly the best player on a historically great team.

DeVonta is one amongst the 3 top receiving talent that is expected to go within the top 15 picks. LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase, Bama WR Jaylen Waddle, and Smith all will hope to be the first receiver off the board. But if Smith does indeed become the 3rd one off the Board, he would still be thrilled if the team that drafts him is the Philadelphia Eagles.

DeVonta Smith will love to play with former Alabama teammate Jalen Hurts

“It would be great,” he said. “Jalen is a very talented QB, and I’d love to play with him again. He’s a competitor and is going to give you a chance to win every game.”

Jalen Hurts now plays for the Philadelphia Eagles. But a few years ago, Smith and Hurts spent two seasons together at Alabama before the quarterback transferred to Oklahoma.

Smith did play in every game as a freshman, netting the game-winning touchdown catch from Hurts with just 25 seconds left against Mississippi State and bursting his name onto the SEC scene. He etched his name in SEC lore when he caught the game-winning 41-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to win the national championship for the Crimson Tide in his freshman season.

DeVonta Smith racked up 235 catches for 3,965 yards and 46 touchdowns in one of the greatest college careers for a wide receiver ever. Smith won two national titles at Alabama, a Heisman trophy while ranking third all-time in SEC history in receptions and first in receiving yards and touchdowns.

Regardless of whether DeVonta Smith is the first receiver off the board or the third, Smith looks like he will a star for years to come. While his size is underwhelming, his skill set is elite. It will be very interesting to see how draft day plays out.
