“Keep motivation close enough to you to remind you what not to be…. And that’s trash”: Cam Newton has the most unorthodox motivation for working around trash cans

Cam Newton and the Patriots barely beat the Jets in an MNF thriller in week 9. Shannon Sharpe gave Newton an “A” for his play.

Newton and the Patriots won 30-27 and avoided dropping their fifth straight game of the season. That would have been embarrassing especially since the loss would have come at the expense of the winless Jets.

Cam Newton Finds His Groove Again

Coming into the game, Newton hadn’t been playing his best football. After contracting COVID-19, Newton missed a game, and his return was far from triumphant.

Games were defined by turnovers and failure to execute in late game situations. However, Newton was able to exorcise his demons against the Jets as he finished with an efficient 27/35 for 274 yards while also adding two rushing touchdowns.

In fact, his rushing ability was key for the Patriots. Aside from scoring those two touchdowns, Newton also snuck his way forward, converting crucial 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 situations as the Patriots tried to come back from a 27-17 deficit.

His escape ability also kept the passing game alive.

After watching Joe Flacco throw three touchdowns, it appeared as if the Patriots were all but done for.

However, the secondary finally shored up as JC Jackson picked off Flacco in a critical possession in the fourth.

Jakobi Meyers Breaks Out As Cam Newton Builds A Connection

Aside from Newton, there was one other Patriots player who stepped up in a major way. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers hauled in an impressive 12 catches for 169 yards.

Meyers made key catches all throughout the game, but his most important one came with 8 seconds left as the Patriots looked to set up for a game-winning field goal.

It looks like Newton has found a connection with one of his receivers. That’ll be crucial for the Patriots going forward as they seriously lack depth and talent at the receiving position.

How About That Game Winning Field Goal?

Nick Folk delivered on several field goals against the Jets, and his game-winner was certainly the best. He drilled it from 51 yards out, and there was no doubt about it.
