Tom Brady and the Bucs visited Joe Biden at the White House, in the first white house appearance since 2017. And he had a ton of jokes for President Biden.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first team to visit the White House since the New England Patriots in 2017, and it marked the first time Brady was in attendance in 16 years.

The 2018 champion Philadelphia Eagles were uninvited by Trump, who had feuded with players who took a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality after several players indicated they planned to skip the trip. The 2019 Patriots couldn’t make it due to scheduling conflicts and couldn’t work out a date in the offseason. And the 2020 champs, the Kansas City Chiefs, couldn’t make it due to the Pandemic.

Brady went to the White House with the Patriots after their first three Super Bowl victories, starting in 2002, but has not attended since 2005. Brady skipped the White House trip when the Pats won in 2015 and 2017 but decided to come after his first ring with the Bucs.

Tom Brady Joked with President Biden

In the middle of his speech, Brady made a joke that referenced the large number of Americans who did not believe that Biden won last November’s election against the incumbent Donald Trump.

“It didn’t look great there at one point. We were 7-5, struggling a little bit, as the President alluded to. But we found a rhythm, we got on a roll,” Brady said. “Not a lot of people think that we could have won. In fact, I think, about 40 percent of the people still don’t think we won.”

Biden: “I understand that.”

Brady: “You understand that, Mr. President?”

“We had a game in Chicago where I forgot what down it was,” he said. “I lost track of one down in 21 years of playing. And they started calling me Sleepy Tom. Why would they do that to me?”

Tom Brady had a ton of confidence to crack jokes with the President, but having 7 Superbowl wins probably earns him that privilege.
