“It is what it is man”: Matt LaFleur reacts to Aaron Rodgers missing Packers mandatory minicamp

Aaron Rodgers is officially holding out in a bid to secure a long term contract with the Green Bay Packers. And even though it isn’t much of a surprise, the same came as a disappointment to the Packers organisation. HC Matt LaFleur was disappointed to not see his QB in camp.

Missing mandatory minicamp cost Rodgers over $93,000 dollars in fines, but Rodgers doesn’t seem to be worried about the money. Given that he’s already jeopardized a $500,000 workout bonus by missing OTAs and other workouts, Rodgers isn’t likely to be swayed by the relatively minuscule fines.

Matt LaFleur didn’t have much to comment on the situation

Packer’s mandatory Minicamp began Tuesday morning. And even though Packers stars like Davante Adams and David Bakhtiari were in attendance, Aaron Rodgers wasn’t.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur declined to disclose whether Rodgers’ absence was excused, calling it “team business.”

“I think anytime you’re talking about any player on your football team, you’d love everybody to be here,” LaFleur told reporters. “So, you know, it’s certainly… It is what it is, man. We’ll focus and we’ll control and work on the guys that are here and try to help them become the best to their ability and coach the heck out of them.”

With Rodgers out, young Jordan Love will take over the No.1 offensive unit in 2020 during training camp. Love will get the first-team reps for the first time since being drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft. And if Rodgers does end up never playing for the team again, this time will be crucial for Love’s development

“He needs every rep he can get right now,” LaFleur said of Love. “He’s a young quarterback that was not afforded a preseason last year, and so we’ll give him as many (reps) as he can handle. We’ll spell him every now and again, but I just think that every rep that he takes is so valuable and you can learn something from both the good and the bad.”

Rodgers is out for minicamp. But with wallet breaking fines officially coming in when training camp starts in July, it will be interesting to see if Rodgers will sit out again.
