Almost a year ago, ex-officer Derek Chauvin brutally assaulted and killed an African American citizen, George Floyd. Floyd’s murder sparked a massive civil riots movement in the United States with the campaign slogan “I can’t breathe” to echo Floyd’s last words as he was choked to death.
The NFL world deeply involved in the movement. From shirts, to end-zone designs, to players participating in protests, everyone in the NFL was looking to raise awareness. Now, that Chauvin has been found guilty, the NFL world was quick to react.

Derek Chauvin Convicted of Murder In George Floyd
It was a sad day for everyone when the video of Chauvin choking Floyd to death went viral. The longstanding issues of racism and police brutality bared their teeth once again, and it was frightening for everyone to watch.
Mind you, this all took place during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic as well. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Atalania Jefferson, Aura Rosser, Stephon Clark, and the list goes on and on and on. All the names kept adding up, and yet there seemed to be no response from anyone in position.
The cops who murdered all these people were still free, and it looked like nobody was held accountable for yet another murder by the police. However, with Chauvin’s verdict, there finally seems to be some sense of relief, that those who are accountable are held to it.
However, this does not mean justice, or victory in any which way. Police brutality is still at large as Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo were the latest victims. However, this marks at least marks somewhat of a step in the right direction.
Justice comes by overhauling the system that enabled these murders and fixing the issue from within, and so one cop being held guilty doesn’t quite change all of that at once, but at the moment, it is something to feel happy about. People want hope that the justice system will do right by them, and Chauvin being convicted is exactly that.
For the moment, it’s hard not to celebrate this small victory in the long war ahead.

Justice.

I breathed deeply and, unexpectedly, the tears flowed. I had no idea how much I carried this emotionally and I’m guessing I’m not alone. No personal cynicism (of which I have a lot) can silence the heart’s longing for justice. Zechariah 7:9 #GeorgeFloydverdict

This should be the norm! No person or profession should be above the law. It won’t bring George Floyd back but I’m glad justice was finally served.
