Madden 22 Rookie Ratings

Madden 22 is inching closer towards its August release, and with it, is coming the buzz surrounding the Madden 22 rookie ratings for this edition of the game. EA Sports released the rating for the top 10 rookies in the game.

NFL rookie ratings are always a reality check for the players. College stars are usually brought back to earth after their harsh rookie ratings. But that doesn’t stop them from making bold predictions either.

The first wave of rookie ratings was released in an ESPN special on Sunday, July 25.

  1. Kyle Pitts (TE): 81 OVR
  2. Trevor Lawrence (QB): 78 OVR
  3. Jaylen Waddle (WR): 76 OVR
  4. Patrick Surtain II (CB): 76 OVR
  5. Zach Wilson (QB): 75 OVR
  6. Ja’Marr Chase (WR): 75 OVR
  7. DeVonta Smith (WR): 75 OVR
  8. Penei Sewell (OT): 75 OVR
  9. Trey Lance (QB): 74 OVR
  10. Justin Fields (QB): 74 OVR

The list is interesting, to say the least. Pat Surtain was the 9th player off the board in the NFL draft but is still the 3rd highest ranked rookie and the only defensive player on the list. Jaylen Waddle, not ‘Bama teammate DeVonta Smith or LSU rival Ja’Marr Chase, is the highest-rated wideout of the three here. And Falcons TE Kyle Pitts is rated higher than first overall pick Trevor Lawrence.

NFL rookies react to their Madden 22 Rookie ratings

During the ESPN special, ESPN revealed a video of various rookies trying to predict their ratings, then reacting to the actual numbers.

Panthers CB Jaycee Horn was particularly surprised by one of his attributes. Horn felt he should be an 84 for Man Coverage but he came in at only 74 for that attribute. “They see how many catches I gave up my last season in college? What are y’all not seeing?” Horn asked in the video.

Chargers corner Asante Samuel Jr. was incredibly accurate about his speed in the game. The CB guessed 92 for his speed, and that’s what it was. Broncos CB Patrick Surtain was also shocked to see his Awareness wasn’t a 95, but instead a 75.

Mac Jones also guessed his overall rating, going subtle and guessing a 66 OVR, but was pleasantly surprised to see that his rating was a 71 OVR.
