However, athletes like Marte Mapu are a class apart. The Sacramento product has become an interesting prospect in establishing his career as a defensive star in the college world.

The efficacy of Mapu is yet to be seen in the NFL arena; however, the youngster has garnered interest from several teams. His availability at offensive and defensive positions makes him a differentiating asset, although his condition is not ideal for a defensive lineman.
How good was Marte Mapu at college?
The 23-year-old played for Hawthorne in high school. Interestingly he was a quarterback there and showcased a great display of skills. His profile changed after the youngster made his way to Sacramento State. Mapu essayed a hybrid role as a Safety and a linebacker. He redshirted in his true freshman season and came into the picture in 2018.
While playing for five games, Mapu featured with the special teams and defensive unit for the Hornets. He missed more than half of his season due to his injury before returning in his Sophomore season.
The Cali native had a strong campaign in 2019, where he started 11 games for the side as a Safety. He recorded 18 tackles (13 solos, five assisted), and had an interception.
The COVID pandemic canceled the season in 2020, thereafter he came back for his senior year recording 65 tackles and four interceptions. To compensate for the missed year, NCAA offered an extra year for the players, which Mapu utilized in his favor, and registered 76 tackles.

He has largely played Safety during his college career, and linebacker is something that he can handle over time. Looking at his physical attributes, Mapu is 6’3″ and weighs 217 pounds. He is expected to find a spot on the third day of the 2023 NFL draft.
