"Matthew Stafford will win the MVP and could throw for 6,000 yards": Peter King has lofty expectations for the Rams in 2021

Matthew Stafford and the LA Rams are geared up for a season with High Expectations. And Peter King has high confidence for the QB in 2021.

Matthew Stafford’s trade to LA was probably the biggest one this offseason. And rightfully so. The Rams got a big upgrade on QB and Matthew Stafford will finally be able to lead a team that has genuine Super Bowl hopes.

Staffords move to LA looks like a perfect situation for both parties. HC Sean McVay has always been regarded as an offensive genius, and his 43-21 record along with a Super Bowl appearance is evidence of the same. And Stafford has been one of the best and most efficient QB’s in the league since he was drafted first overall in 2009. So with the two on the same side along with a loaded offense, the LA Rams will be a force in 2021.

So with all the factors weighed in, Peter King believes Stafford will have a historic year.

Peter King believes Matthew Stafford will win MVP in 2020.

Peter King of NBC Sports wrote his season preview in this week’s column and he’s higher on the Rams than perhaps any other analyst out there.

“I’m picking a Rams-Bills Super Bowl. Obvious rejoinder: What’s wrong with Kansas City and Tampa Bay? You had them ranked 1-2 in the spring,” King writes. “The answer is, Nothing. I really liked the Bills and Rams when I went to their camps. I think it’s Buffalo’s breakthrough year, and I think Matthew Stafford gives the Rams the kind of offensive confidence and explosiveness they haven’t had since we all thought Jared Goff was The Answer, in early 2018.”

Furthermore, he predicted season awards for players and coaches, and his confidence in Stafford is abundantly clear. He picked Stafford to win MVP over Josh Allen and Tom Brady, as well as Offensive Player of the Year over Dalvin Cook and Nick Chubb.

“A healthy Stafford, in a 17-game season and with that Rams backfield, could be the first quarterback to throw for 6,000 yards in a year.”

He may have made only 1 Pro Bowl in his career, but Stafford has consistently played at an elite level. Through 12 seasons Stafford threw for 45,109 yards with 282 touchdowns and 144 interceptions in 12 seasons. The No. 1 pick in 2009 had another great statistical season in 2020, as he threw for 4,000+ yards, 26 scores against only 10 interceptions, but the team still went only 5-11.

Matthew Stafford may be in the latter half of his career but he still seems to have enough in the tank to lead a team that is in win-now mode. It should be very interesting to see how the Rams do in 2021
