Rob Gronkowski Reveals if Lamar Jackson Would be a “Good Fit” in Bill Belichick’s New England

There are a lot of questions surrounding Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s future in the competition. Lamar updated his fans on Monday that he had asked for a trade from the team. Since then, many teams showed their interest in the QB. One option that appeared for Jackson was New England Patriots.

Not long ago, Patriots owner Robert Kraft told the reporters that rapper Meek Mill, who performed at his wedding, texted him that the Heisman Trophy winner Lamar would like to be a Patriot. Kraft did not say that the deal will happen, but he also did not reject the idea. It is the head coach, Bill Belichick, who needs to make the final decision, and one person who knows the coach is none other than the legendary tight end, Rob Gronkowski.

Two Patriots players spoke out on rumors of Jackson possibly joining the Patriots. The two-time Super Bowl winner advised Lamar to not join New England, and now we have Gronkowski speaking about it.

The four-time Super Bowl winner appeared on the ‘Up & Adams’ show with Kay Adams. He discussed if there was any chance for the star quarterback to play with the Pats.

“I think he would be a good fit in a way,” Gronkowski said. “At the same time, I don’t think he would be a good fit… I feel like coach Belichick would always kind of dream of a quarterback on top of, not just a pocket passer, but a Lamar Jackson type, the one that can be able to run the ball as well. I feel like he likes those types of quarterbacks from all the times he talked about them in meetings. So, that’s why it would be a good fit.”

Lamar Jackson still remains available

The star quarterback requested a trade from the team on March 2nd. However, the team then put the non-exclusive franchise tag without ever disclosing the fact that he wanted to get himself traded from the franchise. The tag allowed him to negotiate and talk with other teams. Despite that, he could not catch any team’s attention. 

The two parties failed to reach a deal after nearly two years of deliberations. That is because the former MVP winner demanded a fully guaranteed contract similar to that of Deshaun Watson and the Browns.

The team did not make any move in the direction of releasing the signal caller. It also seems like the QB will end up playing for them in the 2023 season unless he makes some moves on his own.
