Stephon Gilmore made headlines after he missed the Patriots’ mandatory minicamp amidst a rumoured contract dispute. So with a former DPOY possibly on the market, multiple teams will be drooling to have him on the roster. And Jalen Ramsey was wasting no time with his recruiting.

Jalen Ramsey had another All-Pro season in 2021 and was arguably the top cornerback in the league. Stephon Gilmore was the top cornerback in the league and became the first corner to win DPOY since Charles Woodson in 2009. And with both of them on the Rams, the No. 1 overall defense in 2020 will definitely get astronomically better.

Jalen Ramsey recruited Stephon Gilmore on Twitter and Instagram.
Recruiting players on social media may not be on the forefront, but it definitely plays a part in attracting star talent. A.J. Brown did a lot of recruiting to bring Julio Jones to Tennessee. And eventually, the trade went through. So Jalen Ramsey was not going to let another star player on the market sign with another team.
Yo @BumpNrunGilm0re what’s good my dawg?

#Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore is heading into the final year of his contract with a salary of only $7M. He did not show up for mandatory minicamp this morning.

Could the Rams afford to sign Stephon Gilmore?
The Los Angeles Rams were the top defense in the entire league in 2020. But the loaded defensive unit lost a lot of key players in the offseason. Especially in the secondary in S John Johnson III and CB Troy Hill. So the Rams will definitely want to restore their defensive ahead of a promising season in 2021.
In a hypothetical scenario where the Rams do trade for Gilmore, they would only take on his salary of $7 million for 2021, not his entire $16.3 million cap hit. That makes it at least feasible to acquire the four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro cornerback.
However, the Patriots made a huge splash in the offseason to return to AFC contention, and losing a talent like Stephon Gilmore might not be something that team will want. It should be very interesting to see if Gilmore will stay with the Patriots.
