Washington Football Team Potential Names

Washington Football Team Potential Names: Washington is still in the hunt for a new name after changing it from the ‘Redskins’ last year.

There have been several rumors as to what the team could call itself, but nothing concrete has materialized yet. The team had to change its name due to the social issues it faced with the Native American community in the United States, and as a result, before hastily deciding on a new name, Washington went with the simple “Washington Football Team” for the past season.

The team will keep the same for the 2021-22 NFL season as well, hoping to announce a new name and logo by the time the 2022 season rolls around.

So, what are some potential options for a new name? Let’s take a look at what the Football Team could switch its name to next year.

Washington Football Team Potential Names: New Name Ideas For Washington’s NFL Team

1. Not the Warriors or anything linked to the Native American community

The team name ‘Warriors’ kept coming up in talks of a potential new name for Washington, however, team president Jason Wright has made it very clear that will be straying away from this name at all costs. He wrote in a brief:

“In the spirit of that engagement, I want to address a name that has emerged amongst our fanbase, “Warriors.” One might look at this name as a natural, and even harmless transition considering that it does not necessarily or specifically carry a negative connotation. But as we learned through our research and engagement with various groups, “context matters” and that makes it a “slippery slope.”

After the mistakes of the past, it’s good to see that Washington is looking to create a new brand image with the coming of their new name. You can find the full brief here.
