Brees is seen being struck by a powerful lightning bolt in the video. The footage was allegedly taken at the Catatumbo River, which is a hotspot for lightning and thunder. Following the incident, PointsBet Sportsbook released a statement regarding Brees in which it stated that it would continue to “watch” developments in the hours to come.
The brand ambassador for PointsBet, Drew Brees, has received media attention, the PointsBet Sportsbook tweeted. They claimed to be in contact with Brees’ team and to be monitoring the situation for the ensuing few hours. At this point, they won’t be adding any more commentary.

Brees expressed excitement about going to a top-secret location to shoot a commercial for PointsBetUSA earlier this week on Twitter.

Brees’ stunt-hiring online sportsbook, PointsBet, initially refused to admit the video was staged, saying they were in touch with Brees’ team and would “monitor events throughout the coming hours.” However, the company acknowledged having some “fun” with fans to promote a new promotion minutes after Brees said he was fine.

A follow-up video was uploaded to PointsBet’s Twitter account, and Brees himself was in it.
In Catatumbo, Venezuela, the world’s most active hotspot for lightning strikes, he declared, “I am alive and well here.” And this weekend, PointsBet is offering free lightning bets to all of its customers, which has me buzzing with excitement.

The stunt split Twitter commenters, with one calling it “disgusting” and another accusing PointsBet of using a “terrible” marketing strategy. While that was going on, another user praised PointsBet for successfully completing their intended task
