Antoine Griezmann refused to announce his decision regarding his future at the press conference yesterday.
French forward Antoine Griezmann has been making headlines in the summers ever since the previous year’s transfer window. After being heavily linked with Manchester United, Griezmann decided to stay at Atletico in the end. And if reports are to be believed, we are in for a deja vu this year as well – this time with FC Barcelona.
Fans of Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona longed for Griezmann’s press conference yesterday. The Frenchman previously revealed that he will confirm his future in the presser. However, the fans and the journalists were left with disappointment.
The French forward said that he has made his decision, but refused to clarify where he will play next season.
ESPN FC now reports that people within Antoine Griezmann’s inner circle want him to stay at Atletico Madrid. The sources also disclosed that Griezmann “worked actively to bring Lemar to Atletico and is excited to play with him.”
It is also reported that one of the sources indicated that there is no sign of Griezmann leaving Atletico for Barcelona at this point.
Meanwhile, Marca claims that the decision of Griezmann was contingent to arrival of Thomas Lemar at Atletico Madrid.
Previous summer, Griezmann signed a one-year extension with Atletico Madrid, which doubled up his wages from 7m euros to 14m euros. The Frenchman’s contract expires in 2022. It is believed that Griezmann is playing the waiting game, as he is hopeful of an improved contract at Atletico Madrid.
FC Barcelona has reportedly offered 100m euros to sign Griezmann, and hence Atletico Madrid will have to put a better offer on the table against the deadline to convince Griezmann to stay, according to ESPN FC.
