Ocon blames Kimi Raikkonen for Azerbaijan GP crash
Esteban Ocon had the worst possible start to a race today, as he was forced to retire during the opening lap of the Azerbaijan GP following a coming together with Kimi Raikkonen on Turn 3.
Raikkonen had attempted to overtake on the inside on Turn 3, ultimately making some contact with Ocon and the Force India driver ended up hitting the wall.
Ocon was absolutely furious with what had transpired on Turn 3 and put the entire blame on Kimi Raikkonen.
He also took a slight dig at Raikkonen’s mistake in qualifying yesterday, where in Raikkonen missed out on pole as he went a little off track in the final sector yesterday.
“Clearly I had a great start, really good, I managed to overtake him in turn 2, I was ahead of him on the straight. I was completely ahead, he was behind,” Ocon said, as reported by Canal +.
“I don’t know what he did, he released the brakes and hit me.
“It’s clearly a missed opportunity after a great start to the weekend. I think Perez is going to score a lot of points, it’s good for the team.
“What do we want to tell Kimi? He doesn’t talk. He’s not in the position he should be with a Ferrari.
“He made a mistake yesterday, he made another one today,” he added.
Hamilton ultimately came out on top in Baku, as luck was finally on his side today, following multiple races of frustration.
The Verstappen-Ricciardo crash, Grosjean crash behind the safety car and the Bottas puncture changed the entire complexion of the race with Hamilton coming out on top.
