Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Louis Van Gaal makes huge admission over Solskjaer's permanent managerial appointment

Louis Vaan Gaal has claimed that the move to make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a permanent manager is a wrong move.

Manchester United became the only side to not feature in final this season. Manchester City won the domestic treble, Liverpool won the Champions League, Chelsea won the Europa League, whereas, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur took part in the European Cup finals. Historically, for the first time, an all-affair comprised of four English sides in the European cup finals.

Besides, the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League after a sudden collapse under Solskjaer. The Norwegian took over the club on a permanent basis in December, and things were smooth until March. The Red Devils were fourth in the league table, were in the fourth round of the FA Cup and Quarterfinals of the Champions League.

They were knocked out by Wolverhampton and Barcelona in the FA Cup and Champions League respectively. At the other side, they blew up the Champions League hopes by securing just two victories in last nine league games. During this horrid period, the performances were erratic because of the ongoing contract conundrum.

Van Gaal says that Solskjaer’s permanent appointment after his short stint as caretaker comes as a huge surprise. He believes that an experienced candidate would have been suitable for this job.

“As a good player, you’re not a good manager or you’re not a good technical director. It’s more or less what is happening now with [Ole Gunnar] Solskjær, ex-players, old boys’ network. It’s not always a good choice. It can be but it’s not always a good choice.

I was very surprised he got it in spite of the winning run at the start. Because Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world that needs a manager with experience and not a manager who has trained at one or two teams and on a lower level.”

When he was asked if the successful Pep Guardiola was promoted from Barcelona B to Barcelona main team, Van Gaal said: “There are always exceptions and he played as a central midfielder at the highest level, a position where you need tactical orientation, and he was my captain!”

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has three years left in his contract and he looks to revamp the whole squad before the kick start of the next season.
