Pant on Dhoni's advise

Pant on Dhoni’s advise: Rishabh Pant spoke about how an advice from MS Dhoni worked wonders for him.

Having made his debut in the third Test of the ongoing Test series against England at Trent Bridge, Rishabh Pant is in a crucial phase of his career. Despite not been able to make a mark with the bat, Pant has impressed one and all with his wicket-keeping skills in difficult swinging conditions.

In a recent interview, Pant was wax lyrical about senior-pro MS Dhoni and revealed that he approached Dhoni for an advice on wicket-keeping. Having kept wicket for almost a decade and a half, Pant had no one better than Dhoni to turn towards for a suggestion.

Having watched Pant struggling with my glove work, Dhoni advised the youngster to focus on his hand-eye movement. “He asked me to focus mostly on hand-eye coordination as I was focusing more on body movement. Dhoni bhai told me that body movement could come in later but what is most important as a wicket-keeper is the hand-eye coordination”, said Pant on the advice received from Dhoni.

The 20-year old left-hand wicket-keeper batsman also disclosed that following Dhoni’s advice worked wonders for him to the extent that it helped him improve a lot with his duties behind the wickets.

Recently, Ishan Kishan, Pant’s captain from the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2016 in Bangladesh, had also discussed about how Dhoni aided with him his batting. Both of them also play for the same state (Jharkhand) in India’s domestic circuit.

Pant had made his international debut in a T20I against England at Bengaluru in February last year. With him making his Test debut last month, a stellar batting innings might open his chances of representing India in the ODIs as well. If that happens, he will get another chance to share the dressing room with Dhoni.
