Paulo Dybala to Tottenham: Juventus star on the verge of joining Champions League Runners-up

Paulo Dybala is on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur, but image rights could cause a snag.

Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal for Paulo Dybala, but the deal looks ‘possible’ more than ‘likely’ because of the image rights. The same hindrance occurred when United negotiated a deal for the forward, but had to walk away at the last moment.

The reigning Italian Champions are willing to offload the Argentinian this summer, with Maurizio Sarri deeming the forward surplus to requirements in Turin. On the other hand, Maurizio Pochettino is a huge fan of the 25-year-old as provides much-needed dynamism in the frontline.

The reliable David Ornstein has confirmed that the forward is on the verge of signing for Spurs, but has not given any guarantees. It is understood that the forward’s Malta-based Star Image Company are demanding a hefty sum and it would cost an extra multimillion pound fee to settle. Some sources quoted it would require lower than £40m for the image rights alone.

If that alleged value ends up being true, Spurs will have to pay more than £100 million to land the forward. Even though the English club is in the race of completing the deal before the transfer deadline ends, the level of untangling to solve the image rights could prove to be the stumbling block.

The deal is far from dead, and it remains a 50-50 because of the available time to cross the line.

The Champions League runners-up are also on the verge of clinching Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon’s signatures. The Argentinian will join on loan with an obligation to buy for 60 million, whilst the left-back will sign for £25 million on transfer deadline day. Irrespective of Dybala’s signature, Mauricio Pochettino has strengthened his side comparatively.

What’s next?

Tottenham Hotspur are racing to get over the line, while the image rights proving to be a stumbling block currently. It would require a crazy sum to lure him to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
