Sir Alex Ferguson had a knack for spotting talent. However, very few of his findings compare to the absolute gem that is Wayne Rooney. Manchester United had paid a whopping £25 million for an 18-year-old in 2004 to bring the teenager on the last day of the transfer season.

Rooney immediately proved Ferguson right by scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist on his debut. In a champions league match no less. At his prime there were very few who were as good as him, let alone better.

Wayne Rooney went on to become the record goal scorer for United, finding the net 282 teams in over 500 matches. He has also won 16 trophies at the Old Trafford. His trophies include, the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, League Cup, UEFA Europa League and FIFA Club World Cup.

In terms of the legacy he left behind, the impact he made in the team and the number of trophies won, there is no denying that Wayne Rooney is the greatest Premier League transfer day deadline signing of all time.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
