Barcelona reportedly made multiple bids for the Brazilian midfielder, and Manchester United were also linked with Willian.

Chelsea’s trio of Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard and Willian had been entirely linked with a mass exit in this summer. Willian’s departure was looking increasingly likely with every passing day.

The Brazilian was linked with three major European clubs. Apart from constant connections with Barcelona and Manchester United, the winger was also linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Willian is currently on extended summer vacation. Having participated in the World Cup and guided Brazil to the quarter finals, the 30 year old was allowed extra leave by his new boss Maurizio Sarri.

During the World Cup in Russia, Willian remained tight lipped about his future at the club. His intention was probably to focus entirely on his national commitment. As a result, the rumours continued to grow by the day.

However, speaking to Brazilian television, the soon to be 30 year old has lifted the lid on his future. Despite being linked with a move to a host of Champions League clubs and European imperium, Willian has decided to stay put at the Stamford Bridge for another season. In spite of his observable sadness at the end of last season, he has made a decision.

Since signing from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013, Willian was an integral part of every Chelsea season he played in. He was also the club’s best player in 2015/16. Though the season was a forgettable one for the club, some of the Brazilian’s performances saved their blushes.

With Willian making his decision about his stay, Chelsea will now want to re-organise their original plans.

That being said, Willian currently has two years on his contract in west London. From a sportsmanship point of view, Willian should be given a newer and better contract for his dedication during his five years at the club.

Yet, from a businessman’s vision, Chelsea would have been benefited well if they had managed to earn roughly £65 million by getting rid of a 30 year old’s services. As Willian’s replacement, the Blues have been linked with Christian Pulisic as well as a few young talents.
