New Zealand romped to a 10-wicket win in the first test at Wellington. The visitors found themselves clearly outmatched in all departments. The 2nd test at Christchurch is now a must win affair for Virat Kohli and his boys.

However, India’s preparations for the 2nd test got off the wrong foot when young opener Prithvi Shaw missed Thursday’s training session due to swelling on his left foot. Reports suggested that Shubman Gill was in line for a debut and coach Ravi Shastri has all but confirmed who will partner Mayank Agarwal in the 2nd test.
Prithvi Shaw or Shubman Gill?
In a pre-match press conference, India coach Ravi Shastri spoke on the various issues of the team. He began by virtually conforming that Gill would have to wait a while longer for his debut as Shaw had recovered from his injury scare.
“Prithvi is ready to go, “ said Shastri in the pre-match press conference.
Shastri was also asked who India would play between Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Aswhin. To which Shastri simply replied:
“Ravindra Jadeja or Ravichandran Ashwin, we will take that call tomorrow in the morning.”
The Indian coach was then reminded of Ashwin’s failing with the bat in the first test where he only made a 4-run contribution.
“He is a world-class bowler, there is no doubt about it but we have to make sure that we pick the right side for the right conditions. I think he has bowled well over the years, if anything, he would be disappointed with his batting. I think he will improve,” Shastri said.
There were also questions surrounding Jasprit Bumrah; who has not been his usual self with the ball since his return from a back injury.
“Bumrah is very close to getting a five-for or a six-for. It can happen tomorrow. Similarly with Shami (Mohammed), so nothing to worry, “Shashtri said in response to the concerns.
