MS Dhoni likely to be rested: Reports of veteran Indian cricketer set to miss the tour of West Indies are doing the rounds in the media.

With India getting eliminated from the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, eyeballs have once again diverted towards former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

While the 38-year old cricketer was severely criticized throughout the tournament for his batting approach especially in the death overs, he his now alluring the attention with respect to his immediate future as an international cricketer.

There were rumours of Dhoni calling it a day from international cricket after this World Cup. While India have been knocked out, there is still no update regarding the same. During a press conference after the first semi-final, India captain Virat Kohli was asked about Dhoni’s retirement plans but even he didn’t seem to know exact plans.

In nine ODIs in this tournament, Dhoni scored 273 runs at an average of 45.50 and a strike rate of 87.78 including a couple of half-centuries. Talking about his recent form in ODIs, Dhoni has scored 600 runs at an average of 60 and a strike rate of 82.30 including six half-centuries in 18 ODIs this year.

MS Dhoni likely to be rested

Going by a recent report in The Times of India, Dhoni might be rested for the imminent India’s tour of West Indies. While there is no update on whether Dhoni will hang his boots in the near future, reports suggest that he will not board the plane to West Indies.

“Dhoni will not go to the West Indies,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying with respect to Dhoni’s availability for their upcoming tour.

Commencing from August 3, India will play three T20Is, three ODIs and a couple of Test matches against West Indies. Other than Dhoni, captain Virat Kohli and spearhead Jasprit Bumrah are also expected to rest.
